There will be no use or possession of any alcoholic beverages, drugs, vapes, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, drugs, or drug paraphernalia (except by physician’s prescription) during school or school-sponsored events.

Penalties for Violating the Chemical Free Rules

First Offense- Suspension from all team games and tournaments for up to one half year.

Second Offense- Suspension from the team and all extracurricular activities for up to 365 days. Before being reinstated into the interscholastic program you must meet with the Principal, Athletic Director, and Coach. Your parent(s) or guardian(s) must be present at the meeting.

2.   Initiation/Hazing: Hazing or initiation by Interscholastic Athletic participants is prohibited by Southern Victoria High School.  Violation of this rule will result in suspension or possible removal from the team.

3. Leaving Team: Once the coach announces the official team, those athletes remaining are expected to continue on the team for the rest of the season.  If a student athlete decides not to continue, he/she must receive permission from the Athletic Director and/or the principal to withdraw or he/she will be ineligible to participate in another school sport that during that same school year.  Such situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

4. Participation: You must fulfill the eligibility requirements set by the NBIAA.  You will be present at all team meetings, practices, scrimmages, and games unless you are ill and/or have been excused, in advance, by your coach.  In order to practice or play in a game on any school day, you must be in school by the beginning of first period or have a valid excuse (example: doctor’s appointment) approved by the AD or principal.

Failure of student-athletes to attend school on a regular basis, except in situations where absences are deemed “excused” by the Principal or Athletic Director, will result in probation and/or suspension at the discretion of the AD or Principal.  For the 2024-25 school year, students must be present for at least 80% of classes in order to be deemed eligible to participate in team functions.

5. Authorized Transportation:  Students may never drive themselves or other students to their team’s away games, tournaments, or other “away” functions.  Athletes can only travel with parents or other adults over the age of 21. Violation of this policy is an automatic 2 game suspension for any student(s) involved.

6. Responsibility for Equipment/Uniforms: Equipment/Uniforms will be issued to each athlete by the team manager or coach.  The uniform will not be issued (and therefore play will not commence) until the athletic fees are paid for the current sporting season.  In some cases, a security deposit may be required before uniforms or equipment are issued.  It is the responsibility of the athlete to keep track of and store the gear in a secure location. All gear issued must be turned in after the last scheduled game or within the first school week following the last scheduled contest.

All lost equipment/uniforms and equipment/uniforms returned in an unsatisfactory condition must be paid for by the athlete.  The athlete will not be permitted to participate in further SVHS activities until the above obligations are met.

7.  Comportment:  Athletes who represent SVHS should be neat and dress in good taste, and must follow all SVHS and team policies and procedures with respect to such.

8. Language / Gestures:  Profanity and inappropriate gestures are not permitted at any time.  The coach and/or athletic director and/or the school administration will take whatever action is deemed appropriate should such incidents take place.

9. Sportsmanship: All athletes and team members will conduct themselves in a mature and sportsmanlike manner at all times while attending or participating in school-sponsored events as representatives of the team, athletic program, and school.  Respect for teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents is required at all times. Violations will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

10.  Behaviour:  Student-athletes will treat all players, officials, and coaches with respect, and will refrain from any word or action that undermines the team, SVHS, or the NBIAA.  If any athlete’s behavior is unbecoming a Viking, either in school or at school-sponsored events, then he or she will face sanctions as deemed appropriate by the AD and/or the principal and/or the coach.  Arrangements to serve any detentions for poor behavior must be made prior to participation in team competitions or events.  All players are required to follow all safety protocol established to prevent the spread of COVID-19

12.  Team Rules:  The coaching staff has a right to establish and administer team rules for student-athletes around conduct, playing time, and comportment.  These must be followed.  Failure to comply will result in measures deemed appropriate by the AD, Principal, and/or Coach.  Expectations around playing time, dress code adherence, etc. will be clearly communicated with team members by the coaching staff, and supported by the school administration.
